What Are the Main Types of Mushroom Grown in India?
Six types are grown commercially in India: white button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus, the most grown, 16–18 °C), oyster mushroom (Pleurotus, 22-28°C), milky mushroom (Calocybe indica, 30-35°C), paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea, 30-35°C), shiitake (Lentinula edodes, 12-20°C) and medicinal reishi/Ganoderma. Button mushroom sells at ₹80-140/kg wholesale, milky at ₹150-250/kg, king oyster at ₹400-700/kg, and wild guchhi morels at ₹15,000-30,000/kg dried.
