Commercial Button Mushroom Project

Room sizing, rack planning, production cycle, cooling requirement, investment logic, and commercial project models.

MushroomWale builds four standard PUF production room models, all 18 ft wide with an average 15 ft wall height. Standardising the width keeps rack layout, air throw and cooling engineering repeatable, so results stay predictable as you add rooms.

Indicative capacity per room per cycle, from MushroomWale's master data: 18×30 ft — about 1,000 bags, ~2,000 kg per cycle, ~33 kg/day; 18×40 ft — about 1,600 bags, ~3,200 kg per cycle, ~53 kg/day; 18×60 ft — about 2,500 bags, ~5,000 kg per cycle, ~83 kg/day; 18×70 ft — about 3,000 bags, ~6,000 kg per cycle, ~100 kg/day. Actual yield varies with compost quality, spawn, casing, climate control and grower skill.

Cooling is sized per model and supplied with Daikin HMT machines as default: 18×30 ft uses a 6 TR outdoor unit, 18×40 ft an 8 TR set, 18×60 ft a 10 TR set and 18×70 ft a 12 TR set, each with an HMT evaporator indoor unit. Carrier (Haier-CCR, R-404a commercial refrigeration) is available as an alternative on the 18×40, 18×60 and 18×70 models.

Racks are MS angle with jali and PET wire, planned in multiple tiers so the cubic volume of the room is used, not just its floor area. Rack tier count, aisle width and air throw are planned together — a dense rack with poor air distribution produces uneven cropping.

Layout logic matters as you scale. Up to four rooms, and for odd room counts above four, rooms are placed in series. For even counts above four, a mirror layout with a 15 ft covered gallery is used. The gallery is working, movement and packing space, and it must be included in your land planning.

A single room is a learning model. Commercial supply needs staggered rooms so that harvest is continuous instead of arriving in one burst — buyers pay for consistency. Plan compost supply, labour and market off-take against the total room schedule, not against one room.
