PUF Panel Thickness for Mushroom Growing Rooms
PUF panel thickness for mushroom grow rooms: 60 mm common walls, 80 mm external walls, 80/110 mm roof, plus density, PPGL coating and area method.
What thickness PUF panel is used for a mushroom growing room?
Indian commercial mushroom rooms use 60 mm PUF on internal/common walls, 80 mm on external walls, and 80 mm or 110 mm on the roof, at 40 ± 2 kg/m³ core density with PPGL (pre-painted galvalume) skins. Roof thickness is stepped up because roof solar gain is the single largest envelope load.

Recommended plan summary
Climate unit per room: Daikin 8 TR (~28 kW Outdoor Unit)
2× Outdoor Unit (4 HP ea., R32 3ph HMT) + 1× Indoor Unit (HMT Dual-Circuit Evap, 550mm fan)
Compost planning: ~80–96 tonnes of Phase-III compost per filling, staggered across rooms so tunnel turns stay continuous.
Indicative engineering estimate only — not a price quotation. Final sizing depends on site conditions, climate zone, ceiling height and grower practice. GST and transportation are extra; any additional client requirement is charged extra.
How MushroomWale calculates it
- 1
Split the envelope by exposure
Common walls between two conditioned rooms see a small temperature difference and take 60 mm. External walls see full ambient and take 80 mm. The roof sees solar gain on top of ambient and takes 80 mm or 110 mm.
- 2
Fix the core density before comparing prices
Quote comparisons are meaningless without density. Specify 40 ± 2 kg/m³ free-rise PUF core. A thinner high-density panel can outperform a thicker under-filled one, and under-filled panels sag at the joints within two seasons.
- 3
Specify PPGL, not PPGI
MushroomWale specifies PPGL (pre-painted galvalume) skins on every panel. Mushroom rooms run at 85–90% RH permanently; galvalume's aluminium-zinc coating resists that condensing environment far better than plain galvanised PPGI, particularly at cut edges and screw penetrations.
- 4
Compute panel area from the room geometry
Wall area = perimeter × internal height, less door openings; roof area is taken from the room's plan area plus overhang. For an 18×60 ft room the roof alone is about 1,116 sq ft. Add a wastage allowance for cuts around doors, ducts and damper openings.
- 5
Detail the joints, not just the panels
Camlock joints, food-grade silicone sealing, aluminium coving at floor-to-wall junctions and correctly flashed penetrations decide whether the envelope actually performs. Most insulation failures on Indian mushroom farms are joint failures, not panel failures.
