Mushroom Farming Setup in India — Rooms, Racks, Climate & Timeline

A build-level view of a commercial mushroom farming setup: what goes into each room, how the climate system is sized, what the compost side adds, and how long the whole project realistically takes.

What does a mushroom farming setup in India include?

A commercial setup includes PUF-panel insulated grow rooms with 7-tier MS racking, refrigeration with AHU, ultrasonic humidification, fresh-air and CO₂ control, compost supply from a Phase-1/Phase-2 unit or an external supplier, electricals with DG backup, and post-harvest pre-cooling. Civil works, boundary and land development remain client scope; GST @ 18% and transportation are extra.

    The Seven Build Blocks

    Grow rooms (PUF panel)
PPGL-coated PUF panels, insulated doors, vapour sealing and flooring. Room sizes of 18×30, 18×40, 18×60 and 18×70 ft are the standard commercial modules.
    Racking
7-tier MS angle and MS jali racks with walkways sized for picking trolleys. Tier count decides bed area per room and therefore yield per cycle.
    Refrigeration & AHU
Condensing units with AHU, electric-defrost evaporators and controls. Daikin is the default option; Carrier (Haier-CCR, R-404a commercial refrigeration) is available for 18×40, 18×60 and 18×70 rooms.
    Humidification & fresh air
Ultrasonic humidifiers, fresh-air blowers and CO₂ management — without these, pinning and cap quality fail even with perfect cooling.
    Compost infrastructure
Phase-1 bunkers/windrow yard and Phase-2 tunnel with aeration, plus turner and loader handling if you compost in-house.
    Electricals & backup
Panels, cabling, earthing and a DG set sized with a starting-surge buffer over connected load, with auto-changeover.
    Post-harvest
Pre-cooling and cold storage sized at about 1.5× daily harvest, plus crates, weighing and packing area.

    Setup Mistakes That Cost Yield

    • Under-sizing cooling for peak local ambient instead of nominal load
    • Skipping humidification and relying on floor watering — pinning fails in dry months
    • Fewer rack tiers than the room can carry, permanently reducing bed area
    • No DG auto-changeover, so a single outage damages a whole cycle
    • Compost supply arranged after construction rather than before
    • Cold storage under-sized, forcing distress sale of the day's harvest
